G glasses bottles  are one of those items that we use every day. Glass has been used for centuries because not only is it practical, but they are also completely  reusable.

Unlike other recyclable materials, glass bottles can be completely recycled. because they don’t change in the process. This means that every gram that is recycled gives the same weight of material, still in perfect condition.

Now that we live in a time where reducing pollution is vital, any idea for reuse or recycling is welcome. That’s why today we want to share with you a few simple steps on how to turn  glass bottles into decorative bowls for serving snacks.

Let’s start!

How to reuse glass bottles to make a bowl

This technique of making a bowl from a glass bottle is easy to do, but it does take a little patience and time. The result is interesting and you can even add  other decorative things for parties or gatherings.

materials

  • An empty glass bottle
  • Natural soap or cleanser
  • Electrical oven
  • Steel sponge
  • Iron wire and pliers
  • Greaseproof paper

Step 1

Remove label

First you need to  completely clean the glass bottle by removing all the stickers so that the shell will become one color. Some people prefer to leave them alone.

If you can remove the labels by hand, that’s best, but it’s common for pieces to still be left behind. You can then clean it in a bucket of warm water with natural detergent. This softens the glue, so you can remove the residue with a steel sponge.

But be careful. Don’t be too aggressive, you don’t want to damage the glass,  so these spots can also be seen on your bowl.

Step 2

Always rinse the glass bottles first, both inside and out,  so that no unpleasant odors remain.

Let the bottle dry thoroughly.

Step 3

Pendant

One option is to use wire and pliers to  make a hanger for your future bowl. You only need to do this if you want to be able to hang it on the wall. To do this, bend the wire and insert it into the neck of the bottle so that it is firm and flat.

Step 4

Flat Bottle

Now you have to pay close attention, because in this step  we flatten the bottle.

  • Place the bottle on the greaseproof paper or baking paper. Lay the bottle horizontally on the paper.
  • Then turn the oven to the lowest setting and bake the bottle for an hour. Then you raise the temperature to about half the oven’s capacity and bake the bottle for another twenty minutes.
  • Then turn the oven on the highest setting for another half hour and then turn the oven off. Do not open the door yet,  the bottle should remain in the oven for another 24 hours.

Glass has no fixed melting point, but the transition to an amorphous solid depends on the time it is heated.

Step 5

After this period, the bottle will have cooled down and you can take it out. It is ready to use.

Step 6

To top it off, you can use your creativity to give  the bowl a decorative touch. You can use ribbon or even paint or other ways to personalize your bowl or make it look a certain way.

If you want to make it look a bit more elegant, you  can stick a cork in the neck and tie a ribbon around it.

The minimalist design makes this bowl ideal for weddings, birthdays  or other family gatherings.

Of course, all you need now is something to fill the bowl: cookies, bread, crisps, cheese cubes… Anything you can think of!

Try it!

As you can see, this is a great idea. The recycling of glass bottles is something you can easily do yourself. And you can make nice decoration for your home that way.

This and other similar crafts are entertaining and also give you a chance to be creative and skilled. Most importantly, you are taking care of the environment and while it may not seem like a big deal, it will help reduce the negative impacts of years of glass use  around us.
